Six authors with Iowa connections will join together for a Book Fair that will also include a consultant from Usborne Books. Deb Schult of Usborne has wish lists of books created by the public libraries in Story City, Gilbert and Roland in addition to the Roland-Story school libraries. Using those wish lists, the community can help the various libraries by purchasing items that will be added to their collections. In addition, books can be purchased for personal use or as gifts. A percentage of these sales will also go toward the library expansion project.
The authors will be available to sign and sell books and visit with community members in the library meeting room. Each author will also be speaking during two storytelling sessions, "Local Lore", presented at 1 and 3 p.m. in the library's Kinne Wing.
The Story Festival, set for November 7-9, is coordinated by the Bertha Bartlett Public Library (BBPL) Foundation with all proceeds to help fund the library expansion project. The expansion will include the current Pete Tekippe Photography building located at 509 Broad Street, which the library will begin using in 2020.
The Story Festival, now in its 13th year, is taking on a new direction, encompassing local talent in a much greater way, while still bringing the educational expertise of professional storyteller Will Stuck from St. Joseph, Missouri to Story City. Stuck will be featured throughout the festival, offering multiple workshops and performances. This is an opportunity for our community to explore the various forms of storytelling, with something for everyone to enjoy. Many events are offered with a freewill donation collected to cover costs. This is made possible with the support of the Roland-Story School District Foundation and various Story City area sponsors.
